How to Ship a Vehicle with Crowley: A Step-by-Step Guide for Smooth Shipping

If you’re planning to ship your vehicle with Crowley, understanding the process ahead of time can make all the difference.

From document submission to vehicle delivery, here’s what you need to know before you head to the terminal.

Booking and Document Submission

Once you request a shipment, your vehicle will be provisionally assigned to an upcoming sailing. The booking is finalized and matched with the soonest available vessel as soon as your documents are submitted to documentation@crowley.com. After that, you can deliver your vehicle directly to the terminal for processing.

Keep in mind that vessel, voyage, and sailing dates are always estimated. Schedules can change due to weather, port delays, or other unforeseen circumstances, so it’s a good idea to stay flexible with your timeline.

Tracking Your Shipment

Once your vehicle has been delivered, you can track your voyage and booking status using Crowley’s Shipment Tracking Tool. This gives you visibility into each stage of the journey so you always know where your shipment stands.

For compliance and safety reasons, no personal items are allowed inside the vehicle at the time of shipment. Also note that if any party listed on your booking is not yet registered in Crowley’s system, your request will remain pending until that registration is complete.

How to Ship an Electric or Hybrid Vehicle with Crowley

Shipping an electric or hybrid vehicle follows a similar process, with a few extra steps to ensure safety and compliance. After submitting your documents to documentation@crowley.com, your vehicle will be assigned to the next available sailing, and you may then deliver it to the terminal. Once received, you can monitor the voyage and booking details through Crowley’s online tracking tool.

Crowley does not accept salvaged or damaged electric or hybrid vehicles for transport. To qualify for shipment, each vehicle must have a dealer inspection report dated within the past 90 days if it has more than 3,000 miles. In addition, the vehicle’s battery must be sufficiently charged for operation, and all recalls must be verified as up to date.

Electric and hybrid shipments carry an additional charge of $500 per unit. These required documents must be submitted at the time of booking—or as soon as possible thereafter—since vehicles without complete paperwork will remain in “Pending” status and will not be allowed to enter the terminal.

How to Ship a Vehicle with Crowley: Final Thoughts

Shipping a vehicle with Crowley is a straightforward process when all requirements are met. The key is to prepare documents early, maintain communication with the documentation team, and keep track of your shipment online. Whether you’re transporting a standard vehicle or an electric model, following these steps ensures your unit reaches its destination safely and without delay.
